TRILOGY / POWER Following the prompts of the online community, a live performer performs six performances on the streets of Tokyo. Users can use an application that automatically generates a prompt for them online or submit their own prompt text. The artist translates the prompt in the instructions for the live performance. The live performance is broadcast live on social networks. After each performance, the artist returns data as visual, sound and textual objects, a dialogue between the audience, himself and the algorithm. Manually creates an icon into which all data and prompts enter. A kind of icon of time is being created, a kind god to whom we pray even though it does not yet exist. Zarilli writes about this as a form of oral performance, heroic/epic stories that do not have a fixed text, but rather each performance is systematized as it happens, and the mechanism of memory is actually a highly creative process that involves shortening and scanning in order to merge the story into a whole performance (Zarilli 2010: 18). It is also interesting how Zarilli describes the viewer or, better, the listener of created mythical words in primarily oral cultures: “The listener does not try to analyze, understand or interpret what he hears, but experiences and absorbs the musicality of the voice, timbre, tone, pitches, resonance, vibration and shape as the voice moves between sound and silence (…) Reception is perception, not ‘meaning’.” (Zarilli 2010: ibid.). THE ROOMS OF STRENGTH TOKYO_JAPAN GPS PERFORMANCE as an artistic subversion of the system. Intertwining physical and digital performance. As Google has published historical maps of Tokyo, revealing already forgotten areas where the lowest caste of Japanese, burakumin, once lived. Members of the Burakumin have integrated into society over the decades, but the publication of old maps has linked their surnames to forgotten prejudices. The Rooms of Strength is a project by which human fighters revolted against a powerful digital system. Google Earth and Maps present the world as a closed and controlled room. Through a series of street performances, organized and guided by the instructions of a subversive hacker digital network community, LK_2 inscribes new identities in the territory of the city of Tokyo. The fusion of human and digital performance leads to new mappings that are not statistically accurate but are emotional and erotic. Within Google’s controlled world, a room of strength is created, modeled on the poet Keats ’idea of creating worlds and ourselves once we step out of the childhood room.
